Hold On

When the dark days shut the candles out
I know they will
Just hold on
I won’t tell you to trust God
I’ve been there before
Those words lose their meaning in those times
Just hold on
I won’t tell you that God is working behind the scenes
It won’t mean a thing
Just hold on
I won’t tell you that God is ever present in your time of need
You won’t believe me in those times
Just hold on
I won’t tell you to believe and hold firm to your confession of faith
You won’t have the strength to do so
Just hold on

In those seasons of despair and fear
At the snap of those fingers that fades away the lights
In those times when everything disappears
Leaving you alone and lonely
Hold on
At the end of your rope
Dangling above the abyss
Hold on
In the desert, in the middle of the sea, amidst the fiery furnace
Hold on
Just a little longer
No, I won’t tell you to inhale deeply and exhale slowly
Catch your breath, watch
Wait
What’s the worst thing that could happen next?

The skies could melt down
The sun could crash into the ocean
All the earth could be ablaze
But after all the flaming darts you would still be standing
Maybe not on your feet on a solid rock but standing
On a little tiny hope that it will all be alright
But standing nonetheless

So when the storms come
Don’t be afraid to look the mayhem in the eye and ask
Is that all you’ve got?
Because at the end of the day
Even if the storms don’t pass away
You’ll outgrow the pain
Believe me
Just hold on
